If you're up for a road trip then you won't want to miss the Junk Salvation show in Puyallup, WA this Friday evening, November 4th and Saturday, November 5th.

We have been to the Hillsboro show and it was fantastic! For more information go to their blog here.

Thank you to all who visited Worthy Goods at the Monticello Spring Show. It was a huge success because of you!

In the spirit of the season we have decked out our Monticello space with a little red, white and blue.

Also in keeping with the season...

A recipe!

Summer brings with it many opportunities for barbecues, parties and potlucks.

This is a favorite "go to" recipe for both Worthy Goods Gals and we want to share it with you!

Berry Cobbler

You will need:

1/4 cup butter

1 cup milk

1 cup sugar

1 cup flour

2 tsp baking powder

3 cups berries (fresh or frozen)

1/4 cup additional sugar for topping

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In an 8x8 glass baking dish melt butter in microwave. In a mixing bowl combine milk, flour, sugar, and baking powder. Stir until just blended (batter will be lumpy). Pour over melted butter. DO NOT STIR.

Arrange fruit over the top. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup sugar. DO NOT STIR. Bake 40-50 minutes or until top is golden brown. If using fresh berries it may take less time.

Now that you have the basic recipe...

This is the Worthy Goods way of making this fabulous cobbler!

First off...

Triple the recipe if you're going to a semi large function. Obviously you will need a bigger baking dish. You can place the dish in the oven to melt the butter.

Next...

Add a little cinnamon to the batter. It's really good.

Finally...

Consider making this with peaches too.

~This recipe is so easy and good there are rarely any leftovers to bring home! Enjoy!

Heating Things up in the Kitchen

Eating and Cooking.

We love to cook and we love to eat what we cook while feeding it to anyone and everyone! We have been called food pushers on occasion.

Winter and comfort food go hand in hand. There is nothing like home made bread fresh out of the oven. In honor of these cozy winter months we would like to share a favorite recipe with you. This is from Debbie's kitchen and has quickly become a favorite in Laurie's as well. Try it, you will love it!

Kittencal's Jalapeño Cheddar Cheese Bread

1 1/2 tablespoons dry yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
1 cup warm water
4 cups flour (more as needed)
2 large jalapeno peppers, coarsely chopped, and seeds removed (can use more jalapeno if desired)
1 3/4 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1 egg (room temperature, let egg sit in hot water for about 5-7 minutes to warm)
1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce (optional)
1 cup milk, warmed
2 1/2 cups cheddar cheese (chopped into about 1/2-inch cubes or a little larger if desired)

Directions:

Prep Time: 3 hrs

Total Time: 3 1/2 hrs

1Prepare a heavy-duty stand mixer with a kneader blade.
2Proof yeast in water with 1 teaspoon sugar for 8-10 minutes, or until foamy.
3Heat milk in the microwave for about 50 seconds on HIGH.
4In the stainless steel bowl, add in 4 cups flour, chopped jalapenos, salt, sugar, egg, hot pepper sauce (if using) and warmed milk.
5After the yeast has proofed, add to the bowl and start kneading, adding in more flour as needed to create a soft smooth semi-sticky dough, keep kneading for about 8-10 minutes.
6Towards the end of the kneading add in the cubed cheddar cheese, and mix until combined (the dough can be removed from the bowl and you can add/mix in the cheese by hand if desired).
7After the kneading, let the dough sit out on a board or counter top to rest, covered with a clean tea towel for 8-10 minutes.
8Gather up dough and knead gently for 30 seconds.
9Then place the dough in a well greased bowl, and let rise until doubled (about 1-1/2 hours or could take a little longer).
10Punch down dough and slice into two even pieces.
11Shape into two large balls, and place on a cookie/baking sheet that has been sprayed with cooking spray.
12Cover with a clean tea towel and rise again for another 1 hour or more until doubled.
13Brush tops with an egg white that has been mixed with 1 teaspoon cold water.
14Sprinkle on grated Parmesan cheese or sesame seeds.
15Bake in a 375 degree oven for about 25-35 minutes or until the crust is a dark golden brown.

Once you have had your fill of fresh hot home made jalapeno cheese bread, you can use the leftovers to make fabulous meals.

Try it toasted on a turkey, bacon, tomato and avocado sandwich.

Serve it with grilled onions, peppers and mushrooms with roast beef and pepper jack cheese open faced under the broiler.

Toast it and make an egg sandwich for breakfast.

You get the idea...

This bread is so worth the effort. You and your loved ones will be so happy!!!

Fall Premier Show Update

A change in season seems to bring the need for change in our homes and decor. Fall is no exception. The crisp mornings and vibrant fall colors are our inspiration. It's time to clean up, move things around, swap out an old piece for a new one...

Monticello Marketplace has been buzzing with activity ever since opening day of the Fall Premier Show! Happy shoppers have been hauling off stunning treasures to dress up their homes. Worthy Goods included! I (Laurie) bought a fabulous set of doors from Jeff and Julie's Primitives. A beautiful chandelier from Bella and a really cool time card rack. Pics will be posted soon!

The show runs through September 26th. The vendors are bringing in new merchandise daily which requires frequent trips to make sure you haven't missed anything!!!

WWII a Love Letter

The Worthy Goods Girls went out in search of vintage treasure this past weekend. Among the fabulous finds was a letter. The post mark was August 31, 1945 and it said U.S. Army. Intrigued, the letter was added to the pile...

On the drive home we pulled the letter out and discovered a beautiful, handwritten letter written from Okinawa. It was a letter of love and reassurance. Hope for the future and a world of peace. The news of the war ending had come days earlier and this was a husband's response to his wife.

Here's an excerpt from the letter...

"you seemed to be trying to tell me how happy you were for us. I know how you felt Darling. All of us here on the island were very happy over it. I fired about a hundred and fifty rounds into the sky that night, so I helped with that celebration that I sent you a picture of yesterday. The picture really didn't do the scene justice. It was one of the most colorful, if not the most, exposition I have ever seen."

Everyone here has an opinion on when we will get home, but I don't think anyone really knows. The latest rumor tonight is a new system of points that would get me out in March. Counting points for the baby. I love you lots and lots Darling and want to get back to you as soon as possible...

I am glad that our child will be born into a peaceful world instead of the mess the world has been in for the last few years. I wish we could be together Darling. There are so many things that a guy can't write as well as he can say them. I love you Darling.

I am learning some about signs Sweet, but I am not going to make any definite plans until we can be together and talk things over about the future. I am still not sure about whether I am going to take an opportunity in Commercial Art, get a regular job or go in business of some kind...

On August 15, 1945 Japan surrendered, with the surrender documents finally signed aboard the deck of the American battleship USS Missouri on September 2, 1945, ending the war.

With this poignant glimpse into the life of a soldier and his family, a heartfelt Thank You to all who have worked and sacrificed so much to keep us safe here in the USA...

The Barn House Season is officially on! The Spring Opener was a huge success from beginning to end.

Not even the sunshine would miss this party. She was there spilling out warmth and radiance on everyone who attended...

Happy shoppers were there in full force. They were treated to incredible displays put together by the BH Boys and their fabulous vendor friends. There was a little something for everyone...
